Idea might help create a more connected world

To the Editor: Whenever the subject of daylight savings time comes up, it reminds me of a summer when a young man from Chile worked for Yungclas Farms. He thought the idea of changing the clocks was strange because in Chile, businesses just went on what they knew as "Summer Schedule.” In our case, for example, the hardware store and the implement dealers were open early to accommodate their customers. It seems to me that this idea used across the U. S. would help our country to continue to fit into a more and more connected world. Shirley Yungclas Webster City

Climate change is most important issue

To the Editor: One of life’s greatest privileges is to vote. People say, “I don’t want to get involved in politics.” Webster’s Dictionary says, “Politics: A total complex of relations between people living in society.” I hate to burst your bubble, but politics are in everything you do. Every law that’s passed will end up affecting you somehow. Every rule and regulation, every license you purchase or insurance you have to buy came via politics. Family offers thanks for recent benefts

Mayor: ‘Speak up before your local heritage is lost’

To the Editor: Webster City and Hamilton County, I have lived here for the past 19 plus years and am very happy to call this home and tell people where I live and am proud to do so. I however was not born here and no matter what happens in my life, that can never change. This makes me wonder why most people in Webster City and Hamilton County have not put much thought into the future of our children to say where they were born. Weeds near Boone River trail need some attention

To the Editor: Just curious if anyone else has noticed the weeds growing on the slope on the north side of Bank Street immediately west of the river bridge. When we moved into town 22 years ago, that slope was mowed with the park and looked very nice. Then at some point the mowing stopped and it grew wild with trees. Then last year the trees were removed and now weeds have taken over. There are iron weeds growing over 6-feet tall along with a new crop of trees and sucker trees growing from the stumps of the cut trees. I wonder if a citation could be written if this were private ...
