Fire calls 4/25

At 6:16 a.m. on Tuesday, the Webster City Fire Department received a structure fire call at 104 Maple St. The call came in as a garage fire with the garage being attached to the house. When arriving on scene, there was heavy smoke and flames coming out of the front of the garage.

Firefighters attacked the fire, but it was spreading fast through the rafters of the garage and then went into the attic above the house where there were three different roof lines with voids under them. This made accessing the fire very difficult, according the the department’s report. Firefighters then cut holes in the roof to gain access to the fire.

The residents of the house were awakened by their smoke alarm and the dogs barking. The owner of the house then ran around the house and found that there was a fire and smoke coming from the garage. The origin of the fire was between the two garage doors at the floor level with the cause being undetermined. The scene was cleared at about 9:30 a.m. after a couple dozen firefighters worked to put out the fire.
