Lucy Standish Newcastle Daughters of the American Revolution

Dave Moklebust acted as host for the Chapter.

A delicious brunch was served with a large variety of Christmas goodies, plus hot cider, coffee or tea.

Dave and Cathy Moklebust, performed for us with a Holiday Hand Bell Concert. Starting with an “Austrian Carol”, followed by a French Carol, “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella”, and then “O Holy Night”. The Mokleusts gave us a history of the Hand Bells, explaining theirs are made of Bronze, and then led the members in a “beginners” bell rendition of some Christmas songs. Which we all enjoyed learning a new talent, with much laughter and singing.

The business meeting was called to order by Regent Trudy Larson with an invocation by Marge Moore. The Chapter members then recited together the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag and the American’s Creed.

Nine members answered roll call reporting on one hundred eighty-eight volunteer hours for November.

Beth Menges gave the treasurers report. She sent a check to the Veterans home at Marshalltown thru the State Treasurer of DAR. The National and State Dues have been paid leaving us with a small balance.

Daleen Schlitter gave the President Generals report on DAR cemetaries and the DAR Museum in Congregational Hall which has an exhibit of 30,000 objects.

The National Defense Report was given by Iris Eriksen, “What is ISIS”

Lois Lesher gave the Conservation Report on using plastic on our windows .

Menges took our Veterans gifts we had donated in November to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Schlitter reported on the two schools financed by the DAR, Kate Duncan and Tammassee.

Larson read us a DAR Blog regarding the repairs needed for Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.

Then Larson read a Christmas Card she received from her niece. Followed by adjournment with the Daughters Pledge.

The next meeting will be April 7, 2016 at Windsor Manor, Webster City.
