This past weekend, the Blue Oval welcomed exceptional athletes from all over the state of Iowa and all across the country. Taking part in the 113th annual Drake Relays, which took place from last Thursday to this past Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, were several student-athletes from Hamilton County. Of the bunch, Webster City junior Jaxon Cherry got to exhibit the strength he was known for. Lynx girls split at Waverly-SR

This past weekend, the Webster City girls’ tennis team put in a lot of work on the court. The Lynx got plenty of experience, hoping to yield positive results from the upcoming North Central Conference Tournament — which is only a couple of days away. The purple and gold first engaged in a triangular, held last Thursday in Waverly, battling host Waverly-Shell Rock and Osage. Even though they have played against some quality opponents, the Webster City boys’ tennis team is making some small steps forward. Every now and then, however, the Lynx have run into some pretty good competition. Hosting Clear Lake for a North Central Conference meet last Thursday at the Lynx Courts in Webster City, the Lynx couldn’t keep up with the Lions before getting swept by a 9-0 final score. Lynx boys up to the challenge

ALLEMAN — There’s a saying that “iron sharpens iron.” When up against strong competition, the Webster City boys’ track and field team has elevated its performances. Going up against larger schools, such as Johnston, Dowling Catholic and Ankeny, the Lynx excelled before placing third at the Comet Relays, which took place at Comet Field. JEFFERSON — As the weather and landscapes began to beautify a bit, the Webster City golf teams took to the road, traveling south and west to play a non-conference opponent. Facing off against Greene County on Tuesday at the Jefferson Community Golf Course, both the Lynx boys and girls collected victories over the Rams.
