Webster City baseball squad finds its rhythm

ALGONA — In the early stages of the 2023 summer sports season, the Webster City baseball team has taken its fair share of lumps — taking on five ranked opponents in eight games, including three of the best teams in the state in Remsen St. Mary’s, Ankeny Centennial and Dowling Catholic.

It definitely paid dividends, heading into their North Central Conference opener against Algona.

Squaring off with the Bulldogs last Friday, the Lynx outscored Algona via an 11-run differential down the stretch before earning a 17-6 victory.

Tied at 3-3 at the top of the fourth inning, Webster City plated three within the frame, before scoring two in the fifth, five in the sixth and capping the win with four runs in the top of the seventh.

The victory snapped a four-game skid for the Lynx, as the purple and gold improved to 3-6 overall with a 1-0 mark within league play. Algona fell to 2-4, 0-1 in the NCC.

This past Tuesday, the Lynx faced off against Storm Lake on the campus of Storm Lake High School. On Wednesday, Webster City returns to league play, making the short trip to Fort Dodge to play St. Edmond at 7:30 p.m. at the Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.

The Lynx were led by freshman Matthew Tesdahl and senior Connor Hanson. Tesdahl was 3-of-5 at the dish, whipping up two singles and a home run, while Hanson racked up four RBI on a double and a single.

Junior Keegan Hisler also had a solid outing against the Bulldogs, compiling four RBIs by way of a triple and a single. While toeing the rubber.

Senior Ty McKinney put together a performance of a double, a single and two RBI, while teammate CJ Hisler contributed nicely with two singles and two RBI.

Junior Josh Stansfield logged two singles, while teammate Briar Klaver acquired a single and an RBI. Freshman Jaxon Griffith also picked up a single, and a win on the mound by way of four strikeouts.
