STORM LAKE — In their first 10 games of the summer, the Webster City baseball team has battled more than its fair share of highly regarded and underrated opponents. By Wednesday, the Lynx played teams with a combined record of 63-18.

Talk about strength of schedule.

The Lynx were locked in another tough nonconference battle this past Tuesday on the campus of Storm Lake High School, as Webster City came up short in a narrow 7-6 setback at the hands of the Tornadoes.

Leading 4-1 midway through the fifth inning, the Lynx yielded six runs to Storm Lake. While the purple and gold mounted a late rally in the top of the seventh, the Lynx were only able to plate two runs before being handed their seventh loss of the season.

With their latest loss, the Lynx dipped down to 3-7 overall while the Tornadoes improved to an 8-2 record.

Webster City worked to get back into the win column this past Wednesday, taking on St. Edmond in a North Central Conference matchup held at the Harlan and Hazel Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. Results from the matchup between the Lynx and Gaels will be posted in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.

Tied at 1-1 by the top of the third inning, the Lynx whipped one run within that frame before adding two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Storm Lake fought back, scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth before preventing a late comeback from the Lynx.

Junior Briar Klaver racked up three RBIs on three singles, while senior Connor Hanson smacked a home run and a single for the visiting Lynx. Junior Josh Stansfield recorded two RBIs on one hit, while senior Ty McKinney, junior Keegan Hisler and senior CJ Hisler each recorded hits.

Freshman Carter Mickelson contributed by scoring a run against Storm Lake, while McKinney, Keegan Hisler, freshman Jaxon Griffth and teammate Aiden Hrnicek each picked up stolen bases.

Sophomore Brady Asklund took the loss while on the mound, even though he had fanned six Storm Lake batters in a five-inning performance. Freshman Gavin Griffith relieved Asklund against Storm Lake.

Starting at $3.46/week.
