CLARION — The Webster City baseball team was all business in their season opener on Monday, defeating Clarion-Goldfield/Dows 15-0 in five innings. The Lynx plated three runs in the first inning, then finished the contest via the mercy rule with four runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth. Eight different Webster City players collected hits, as Jaxon Griffith and Braylon Dyvig had two apiece. Quintet of Webster City girls headed to state

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City girls track and field team captured a handful of bids to the state meet here last Thursday at a Class 3A qualifier hosted by Clear Lake. The Lynx placed fourth overall with 78 points. Decorah was first followed by the Lions and Humboldt. Izzy Grossoehme earned two of those automatic bids to Des Moines, winning the 400 in 58.90 and placing second in the 200 in 26.83. She also ran the anchor on the first place sprint medley. BOONE — The season came to an end for the Webster City boys tennis team here Saturday during a Class 1A district tournament. Nathan Wardell picked up a first round win over Erik Larson of St. Edmond in the singles draw, 6-1, 6-2, before falling to Owen Galvin of Denison-Schleswig, 6-1, 6-1.
