CLOSE CALL
HUMBOLDT — The Webster City volleyball team came up just short of securing the North Central Conference championship here Monday, falling to Humboldt in four.
Scores were 25-27, 28-26, 25-15 and 25-22.
With the win, the Wildcats clinch the league title with one game remaining. The Lynx will finish second in the standings.
“All four games were close,” WCHS head coach Jess Howard said. “The crucial points swung their direction, and had they swung the other way, it would have been a completely different output.”
Marissa Hedeen had 19 kills with three aces, nine digs and a block to lead Webster City (13-9 overall, 5-1 in league) while Olivia Gallentine added eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks.
Tristyn Wright had five kills and both Avery Poppen and Addilyn Orton chipped in three. Poppen also had three blocks.
Hailey Brim, Wright and Morgan Hackbarth were a combined 49-for-49 serving with three aces. Gallentine also had 20 assists and Wright 14, as the Lynx saw their five-match win streak come to an end.
Cloe Savitski added two aces and 22 digs, Hackbarth had 16 digs and Alivia Burns nine. Lovie Pruismann tallied two blocks with Wright, Hedeen and Orton each recording one.
“It was great to see the girls competing all the way through,” Howard said. “They never gave up and kept pushing while attacking.”
