Hawks break into win column

JEWELL — The South Hamilton football team has been a difficult out when it comes to district play over the past few seasons.

That proved to be true once again here Friday night, as the Hawks picked up their first victory of the year with a convincing 30-7 victory over West Central Valley in the district opener for both.

After taking an 8-0 lead through the opening quarter, South Hamilton (1-3 overall, 1-0 in district) scored twice in the second to take control.

Ashton Williams scored twice and rushed for 50 yards, Kolby Hodnefield had a team-high 52 yards rushing with a TD, Nick Severseike ran for 49 and Jose Babcock 47 for a balanced attack.

Braden Young hit Landon Sogard on a touchdown pass while also hooking up with Lyndon Johnson on a 34-yard pass and catch. Young finished 4 of 6 for 65 yards.

On defense, Hodnefield had 5.5 tackles and Titus Herrick recorded two sacks. Severseike and Sogard both picked off passes while Hodnefield, Johnson and Benjamin Swenson each recovered a fumble.

South Hamilton will try to keep the momentum going when they travel to Nodaway Valley this coming Friday. The Wolverines (0-4, 0-1) fell to Woodward-Granger this past Friday, 48-8.

Starting at $3.46/week.
