South Hamilton looks to rebound

Hawks hit the road for district game at West Central Valley

STUART — The South Hamilton football team looks to bounce back from a loss when they visit West Central Valley on Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Hawks (2-1 overall, 0-0 in district) and Wildcats (1-2, 0-0) are both part of Class 1A, District 7 this year, adding some importance to this week.

South Hamilton fell from the rankings after a tough 29-20 setback vs. Roland-Story. They had started the year with wins over both West Marshall (48-13) and South Hardin (20-14).

Nick Severseike, Kolby Hodnefield and Prestin Van De Pol all found the end zone in the win, but no runner had more than Severseike’s 69 yards. As a team, the Hawks had 278 yards on 50 carries.

On the year, Severseike, a junior, has 366 yards and four scores, averaging over 11 yards per carry. Noah Gunderson has 185, Hodnefield has 151, Ashton Williams has 128 and Tjerdan Johnson 106 yards on the ground.

West Central Valley is coming off a 30-28 setback to Red Oak after besting Shenandoah, 27-19. They opened the year with a 28-17 loss to Panorama.

Nate Gerling has completed 13 passes for 185 yards while Jathan Edgington leads the ground attack with 148 yards. Trenton Naragon, Jordon Robinson and Gerling have each scored two rushing TDs while Landon Osberg has nine catches for 106.

South Hamilton owns both wins in the series, topping the Wildcats by a score of 52-6 in 2017 and 48-18 the year before.
