Hawks eliminate Janesville

JANESVILLE — Before entering the postseason, the South Hamilton boys’ basketball team was working to shake off a multi-game skid. With the postseason resetting teams to zero wins and zero losses, hope can spring anew.

The Hawks bounced back nicely in the opening round of the Class 1A-District 3 tournament, knocking off Janesville 58-40.

South Hamilton (8-12) dominated on the glass, hauling in 37 rebounds, and used a 15-point run in the first period to keep the Wildcats at arm’s length throughout the game.

Junior Ryland Ubben came off of the bench in a big way against the Wildcats, compiling 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists to lead the Hawks.

Advancing into the district semis, South Hamilton will prepare to go north and west, taking on West Hancock at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the West Hancock High School Gym in Britt.

The Eagles (12-9) cruised past Central Springs with a 71-42 victory on Monday in Britt.

Following Ubben on the stats sheet was senior Teagan Trask, who dished out 14 points. Senior Landon Grove contributed with eight points.

Starting at $3.46/week.
