Lynx face Dodgers in 4A regional volleyball opener

WEBSTER CITY — Postseason volleyball hits the court here Tuesday night, as Fort Dodge makes the short 20-mile drive to take on Webster City in a Class 4A, Region 6 opener.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The winner between the Dodgers (9-23 overall) and Lynx (20-15) advances to play fifth-ranked Western Dubuque in Epworth on Thursday. The other part of the bracket features Decorah-Mason City, with that winner meeting Charles City in the semis.

A bid to the state volleyball tournament will be handed out on Monday, Oct. 25 with the highest-ranked team serving as host.

Webster City has picked up six wins in its last 10 matches, going 2-2 at the recent Winterset Tournament. The Lynx finished third in the North Central Conference behind Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Humboldt.

Seniors Reese Casey, Livia Kasch and Joslin Gourley all have over 100 kills, with Casey leading the way with 195. Casey is also tops on WCHS with 70 blocks, while Gourley and Kasch have a combined 48.

Alley Odland, another senior, has 448 digs, while junior Adeline Tesdahl has recorded 208. Gourley, Casey, Kasch, Odland, Casey, Rattenborg, junior Delainey Bargfrede and sophomore Olivia Gallentine are all serving over 90 percent, as Webster City has a team mark of 93 percent with 180 aces.

Runners-up in the North division of the Iowa Alliance Conference, Fort Dodge and first-year head coach Lexi Astor picked up a pair of wins at the league tournament this past weekend over Ottumwa and Des Moines Lincoln.

The Dodgers also share several common opponents with Webster City including Humboldt, Algona and Carroll Kuemper.

Senior Lainey Maehl leads FDSH with 126 kills, followed by junior Mackenzie McIlrath (85) and 12th-grader Victoria Touney (72).

Maggie Elsbecker, a senior, has a team-high 172 assists and has 79 digs with a 96 percent serving rate to go along with six aces.
