LE MARS — A pair of district unbeatens square off here Friday night, as Webster City travels to Le Mars.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

In the opening week of Class 4A, District 1 play, the Lynx scored a convincing win over Fort Dodge. Le Mars and Spencer were also victorious, leaving the trio tied for the top spot heading into Week 2.

Bob Howard’s Webster City (3-2 overall, 1-0 in league) squad has put a beating on both the Dodgers and Mason City over the past two Friday’s, earning 62-23 and 49-14 victories.

The losses by the Lynx have come at the hands of top-ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt (10-0) and No. 3 (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock (28-0), around a shutout for WCHS vs. Boone (54-0).

Junior Jaxon Cherry continues to get stronger as both the game and season go on. He is up to 854 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on 108 carries, highlighted by a dominant 248-yard, six-TD performance last week at Fort Dodge.

Ty McKinney, a senior, has thrown for 310 yards and added another 293 on the ground with six total touchdowns, while junior Keegan Hisler has 135 yards receiving and senior CJ Hisler has 393 yards rushing and 115 receiving.

Le Mars (4-1, 1-0) has reeled off wins over Storm Lake, 49-10, and MOC-Floyd Valley, 24-22, since a loss to Sioux City East.

The Bulldogs opened the year with wins over Sioux City Heelan and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Leading the way for Le Mars is junior quarterback Teagen Kasel, as he is completing 58 percent of his passes for 648 yards and five TDs. Kasel also has 155 yards rushing, with Elijah Dougherty adding 271 and Conner Jalas 139.

Both Sione Fifita and Beau Wadle have over 200 yards receiving, as Wadle averages 20 yards per catch and Fifita just over 19.

Last year, the Lynx posted a 50-29 win over Le Mars as they went on to capture another district title with a perfect record.

Webster City will meet Spencer next week in another key showdown at home. The Tigers are 4-1 and face the Dodgers at home on Friday.
