Webster City Area Chamber encourages continued support for downtown businesses following fire

Commerce extends its heartfelt thoughts to all those affected by the recent fire at J Watts Electric LLC. This unfortunate incident, which also led to the temporary closure of neighboring businesses including The Webster Theater, Gilbert Jewelers, and Sandi’s Attic, and Platinum Connect, reminds us of the unpredictable challenges our local businesses face.

The Webster Theater will still host the free movie sponsored by Karl Webster City — “The Gremlins Special Edition” — at Jefferson Gym on Saturday December 2. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Showtime is 2 p.m.

The parade route will depend on an engineering inspection that will take place today. As you know, the 600 block of Second Street is closed due to Wednesday’s fire. We are planning on proceeding on the original route along Second Street. An alternative route will be utilized on an as-needed basis, pending recommendations of professionals onsite later today.

No matter the route, the Christmas in the City Lighted Parade will still wind its way to the tree lighting at Availa Plaza.

Remember also that Christmas in the City — the full day of festivities on Saturday — will continue as originally planned. For complete details go online to visitwebstercityiowa.com.

While the affected stores begin their recovery process, the Chamber urges the community to continue supporting our vibrant downtown businesses. Most stores remain open and accessible through their back entrances, ensuring that the unique shopping experience Webster City offers remains uninterrupted.

The Chamber is committed to assisting all impacted businesses and is working closely with local authorities to ensure communications regarding a swift and safe return to normalcy.

We are deeply grateful to the fire departments from Duncombe, Eagle Grove, Stratford, Blairsburg, Stanhope, Fort Dodge and Williams who worked in cooperation with the Webster City Fire Department. We are grateful, too, to the Webster City Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Van Diest Medical Center ambulance responders, and all of the multiple city departments who were called into action Wednesday as well.

Their prompt and effective response prevented further damage and exemplified the spirit of community and resilience.

Webster City’s downtown is not just a business district; it’s the heart of our community. As we move forward, the Chamber encourages residents and visitors alike to explore and support the diverse array of shops and services our downtown offers. Your patronage during this time represents a powerful show of solidarity and strength.

Together, we will ensure that the spirit of Webster City’s downtown remains vibrant and strong.
