Webster City girls roll on the pitch

The Webster City girls soccer team picked up a convincing victory on the pitch here Thursday night, downing Wright County, 4-0.

Jillian Symens had two goals and two assists to lead the Lynx, as Sandra Fuentes-Cruz and Heidi Mendoza also found the back of the net.

Mendoza added an assist to her evening as Webster City broke open a 1-0 lead at the half with three goals after the break.

“We got off to a rocky start in the first half, but came together in the second and looked much better,” WCHS head coach Kristine Mason said. “We moved some players around to new positions and there was a big payoff in the attack as well as cleaning up our defensive organization.

Joleah Stuhr recorded five saves in net to record a clean sheet.

“Mia’s one touch goal from the 18 off Jill’s early ball was so fun to watch,” Mason said. “Sandra got the start and found herself in perfect position once again to tap one in off a rebound. She continues to show big improvements each game.

“Jill leads the attack for us and consistently gets goals in the back of the net, but she also creates chances and sets up her teammates for success too. Her first touch was outstanding and even more exciting for me to see than the goals.”

The Lynx have now won two straight and have not allowed a goal in either match. They are a perfect 6-0 all-time vs. Wright County.

Next action for Webster City will be Monday when they host Iowa Falls-Alden as part of a three-match week. The Lynx head to Humboldt Thursday and return home to meet Boone on Friday.
