Doodlebugs and dancing

Adri's Adventures

It’s been another busy week here in Webster City and the weekend is shaping up to be busier still. We’ve had individuals scooting in from across the country for the WC Doodlebug Club of America’s 31st Annual Reunion. I’m sure many of you have seen the red motorized vehicles traveling about the town this week. Club members have once again returned to Webster City to celebrate the Doodlebug scooter’s local history. Each club member returns year after year to “be a kid again” and reminisce about their fond memories of first owning the unique scooter.

As much as club members enjoy their time scooting about the local trails, they even moreso enjoy telling their tales and sharing their pieces of history with the locals. So, if you are curious about the Doodlebugs, head on down to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds this weekend and check this unique event out.

Another fun event for the whole family to attend this weekend is the ACE Salsa Festival. There will be taste testing, salsa dancing, vendors, a special authentic meal and family movie. The fun begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday at ACE Community Center, located at 1440 East Second St.

Salsa contest entries are still needed. Those who wish to make a salsa, dip or type of sauce that a chip can be dipped in can register by calling (515) 832-4153. Contest set-up will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Chips and cups will be provided. Cost to enter the contest is $10.

Guests will be able to taste and vote for their favorites from 3 to 5 p.m. Winners and prizes will be announced at 5 p.m.

Vendors are also still needed. Cost is $10 to be a vendor at the event.

An authentic pig roast with Mexican and Asian food delicacies will also be available. Cost for an adult meal is $8. Cost for a kid’s plate is $3. The meal will begin at 5 p.m.

A family movie will be shown beginning at 7 p.m.

This weekend, there truly is something for everyone to do. Try your hand at salsa dancing and meet the people who help make Webster City and Hamilton County so diverse. Check out the Doodlebugs and their role in local history.

There is an adventure out there for everyone. It’s up to all of us to try new things and see what our community has to offer.
