Lynx boys compete in NCC match

FORT DODGE — The Webster City boys tennis team dropped a North Central Conference match to St. Edmond here Tuesday.

The final score was 6-3 in favor of the Gaels.

Nathan Wardell was part of two of the three wins, scoring a singles victory at the No. 1 spot over Andrew Horrell in a tiebreaker. He also paired up with Sage Bock to secure a forfeit at No. 1 doubles.

Vincent Bittner, a freshman, was victorious in singles at the No. 6 position, also earning a tiebreaker win over Alex Hayes.

“I thought we took another step in the right direction,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “First off, it was nice to get another meet in after so many postponements. I saw a lot of growth up and down the lineup, and I thought we did some good things.

“I know Nate wasn’t happy with his performance and would have liked to have played better, but sometimes it’s good to have a match where you really have to grind. He did a good job adjusting and finding a way to win.”

Fisher added he was “really impressed with the mental toughness Vincent showed. He was up 8-5 and 9-6 at different points, but let the lead slip. He was able to lock back in and play some solid tennis in getting his first career win.”

Webster City hosts North Polk on Thursday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
