Hawk boys play in golf tourney
The South Hamilton boys golf team got the season going with tournament and triangular action this week.
The Hawks finished fifth overall in the 18-hole Bondurant-Farrar Invitational at Terrace Hills Golf Course on Monday. North Polk won the seven-time event with a 306 followed by Gilbert, PCM, Nevada and South Hamilton, who had a 332.
Luke Martensen led the way, shooting a 79 to finish in a tie for sixth overall. Brody Harris carded an 80 for 12th, Sam Koehnk was 16th with an 83 and Michael Carlson finished 24th with a 90.
On Tuesday, the Hawks posted a victory in a triangular over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Eagle Grove at home, shooting a 165.
Harris was medalist for South Hamilton with a 38, as Koehnk finished second with a 41. Carlson added a 45, Garrett Johnson had a 47 and Liam Ealy a 58.
“It was great to see the boys get a win,” South Hamilton head coach Steve Butler said. “With this being just our second meet, we are headed in the right direction.”
The Hawks take on Gilbert and Van Meter Friday at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
