To the Editor: In US Sen Joni Ernst’s guest editorial in this paper on Nov 22nd, she demonstrated what is wrong with today’s politics: Blaming others for the problems without offering any solutions. Blaming is a political tool that promotes tribalism defined as the behaviors and attitudes that stem from strong loyalty to one's own social group. Left unchecked in politics, tribalism can lead to despotism as it did with Hitler in Germany. Tribalism does not require listening to others or learning new perspectives or ideas. Appreciates local news coverage

To The Editor: After getting the DFJ Newsletter for several years, I finally became a full subscriber and am glad I did. The local coverage is outstanding - much, much better than the local paper serving the much larger geographic area where I live now. The coverage of Lynx sports by Troy Banning is outstanding. Medicine ads on TV overwhelming

To the Editor: It seems like network television is taking up more time in commercials these days.. Thank goodness for the mute button. But I got to noticing all of the meds they are advertising. As the British said when they watched the interview with Harry & Megan, "are all Americans sick?” In the last couple weeks or so I have kept a list of some of the names I have seen on TV. Voters need to pay attention to what’s happening in Washington

To the Editor: Every time I hear someone say they want the two parties to work together, I cringe. I know life gets busy with family and jobs, but please pay attention to what is going on in Washington D.C. and Des Moines right now. Senator Mitch McConnell publicly announced on May 5th he is 100% focused on stopping President Biden's administration. Right now the Senate Republicans are filibustering a vote on the debt ceiling. Proven more than qualified to lead

To the Editor: With March being Women’s Month in the U.S. and International women’s Day during the first week, it is important to recall that it was 52 years ago that Shirley Chisolm was historically elected the first Black woman in Congress. Black women are the backbone of the U.S. democracy and have proven more than qualified to lead.
