Thanks to all who helped with Avenue of Flags

To the Editor:

The Avenue of Flags committee of the American Legion Post 191 extends its sincere appreciation for another successful display of our most beautiful American flags at Graceland Cemetery May 23 to May 30.

Thanks to everyone for being careful as you drove through the cemetery. Damage this year involved four sections with no one paying for a replacement. We apologize for different time changes mostly due to the fact the flags were too damp when we wanted to take them down.

Here are some of the thank you’s with apologies to anyone we may have overlooked:

Custom Meats for continuing to provide storage and their employees for getting the trailers in and out of storage; Vernie and Mabel Raska for repairing 31 flags this year; Webster City Police Department for their escort and extra patrolling; Graceland Cemetery for providing space for our trailers while the flags were on display; Jim Burnett, Ken Christesen Ron Keigan, Bob Goretska, Harold Martin, Lee Ayers and Leo Lanctot for helping with the flag trailers and escorts. Thanks to Harold Martin and Vern Ratcliff for providing golf carts.

A?big thank you to Lynn Jaycox of Jaycox Construction for repairing the flag trailers; Ted Larson and the Webster City wrestling team for 20 strong young men who picked up “the empty flag trailer”?and slid it back about the 18-inches it had been moved earlier. Also, many thanks to Boy Scout Troops 17 and 511, Cub Scout Troops 585 and 583 and the 4-H’ers. Thank you to the Daily Freeman-Journal and KQWC?for media coverage. And lastly, a special thank you to all the Legionaires. Again, thanks to one and all who were workers, participants or those who were present for some or all of the activities.

The Avenue of Flags depends on great people like we have here in Webster City. Thank you so much.

God bless America.
