Dale Bergman, 74, Stratford

Dale Eugene Bergman, 74, of Stratford, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife and children by his side on September 12, 2014, due to complications with his heart and pulmonary fibrosis.

Dale and his twin, Dean, were born at the Boone County Hospital on October 13, 1939. He graduated from Stratford Community School. During the years that followed, he served in the Iowa National Guard.

Dale was married to Louise Dian Olson on October 20, 1962; they were married 52 years.

Dale worked at the Farmer’s Co-op following graduation, after which he worked at Westrum Motors and farmed for many years. He was also in the sales and advertising business with his wife, Louise. He enjoyed going to Leech Lake every summer on vacation with his family, antiquing, gardening, and fishing with his beloved grandson, Brennan. He was a member on the boards of the Stratford Lutheran Church, Farmer’s Co-op, and the Stratford Mutual Telephone Company. He was actively involved with community and county economic development.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Arlene Bergman, his cherished grandson, Brennan Bergman, and his identical twin, Dean Bergman.

Dale is survived by his loving wife and friend, Louise; one son, Shawn (Catherine) Bergman; and a daughter, Jan (Rilee) Scheuermann; one grandson, Harrison Scheuermann; and two adopted grandchildren, all of Stratford, Iowa; Dennis Bergman of Stratford, Iowa; Gloria Gaylor, Jerry Bergman, and Curtis Bergman of Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends who were very dear to him.

The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford with Pastor Joe Lambert officiating.

Burial will be at Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport, Iowa.

Visitations will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 16th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Friends may call prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family of Dale Bergman wishes to thank Care Initiatives Hospice, Des Moines, Iowa, and all of Dale’s close friends who regularly visited with him to keep his spirits up. We will miss his smile, his laugh, and the wonderful stories of his life.
