Multiple fire departments respond to spreading fire in southern Hamilton County

Multiple fire departments descended on a field fire south of Stanhope Saturday, according to Hamilton County Emergency Management.

Stanhope Fire was initially called to the fire, but because of the windy conditions and dry fields the fire quickly spread, according to Tim Zahn, Hamilton County Emergency Management coordinator.

In addition to Stanhope, the following departments responded to stop the spread of flames:

Jewell, Stratford, Kamrar, Webster City, Ellsworth, Story City, Boone, Gilbert, and Roland.

Zahn said farmers from the surrounding area used their equipment to make sure blaze didn’t continue to spread.

He thanked Casey’s in Jewell for making pizzas on short notice and Hamilton County Supervisor Rick Young for delivering the pizza, extra water and other treats to the fire scene. He also thanked Jewell Market for provisions.

“Lastly, but certainly not least, the Hamilton County dispatchers that always handle these difficult situations with amazing professional calmness,” Zahn said. “We are blessed with amazing people in our county.”

The National Weather Service has been warning people of an increased risk of fire due to the continued dry, windy conditions.
