The event was held at the Webster City High School in the Prem Sahai auditorium.
Both candidates are from central Iowa.
Klaver is from Kamrar, is a sixth generation farmer and graduated from Webster City High School. He established a drone spraying business, while attending Iowa State University and working for the Senate.
Bower was born in Sigourney, graduating from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. He is a decorated war veteran, now retired, and president of a non-profit organization called Reforging Families. He is currently the mayor of Roland.
The primary on June 2 will also have Cynthia Oppedal Paschen running on the Democratic ticket.
Brian Young, of Stanhope, withdrew from the race in late April.
