Black Hills Energy moves to new location

Facility to house service center, storage and construction staging area

For the last 23 years Black Hills Energy has leased office space at 644 First St. in downtown Webster City. All of that changed over the weekend when crews moved the utility company to their new facility located at 225 E. Commerce Drive.

The 12,000-square foot facility will serve as regional headquarters for the 30 communities served within the district. The facility will accommodate 19 employees throughout the district and serve as the Webster City area service center, material storage, and construction staging location. The property is adjacent to other industrial businesses, which will allow construction crews to operate in a safe manner, ready to support the local communities at all times. The facility design supports Black Hills Energy’s focus on safety by utilizing pull through equipment bays to store critical heavy equipment out of the elements to ensure crews are ready to respond in all weather conditions.

“Constructing new, state-of-the-art facilities that are best suited to our company’s strategic direction is the right thing to do – for our coworkers, our customers and our communities”, said Michael Wright, manager of natural gas operations for Black Hills Energy in central Iowa. “The new combined office and construction warehouse is an investment in the community’s future and a testament to our 75-year legacy of safe, reliable natural gas service to Webster City and the surrounding area.”

Before the move, Black Hills Energy worked closely with Webster City officials to find a location that would benefit customers through more efficient operations and provide space for potential growth. A 5-acre parcel of land was purchased from the city the fall of 2019 and construction began June of 2020.
