One injured in Monday afternoon crash

WILLIAMS – An Apple Valley, Minnesota, woman was injured in a car accident on Interstate 35 northbound in rural Hamilton County on Monday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2011 Nissan driven by Heidi Barta, of Apple Valley, was traveling north on I-35 in the left lane when, while near the 147 mile marker, she swerved over to the right lane and collided with a 2018 Toyota driven by Michael Petit, of Tracy, Minn.

Barta’s vehicle then went left into the median, hit a dirt mound and became airborne before sliding on its side and coming to a stop in the middle of the median.

Petit pulled over on the outside right shoulder, the ISP reported.

The crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Barta, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported by Williams Fire and Rescue to Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
