Festival of Chocolate to return

Bakers encouraged to submit entries for annual confection competition

— Daily Freeman-Journal file photo Trays of chocolate goodies await tasters at the 2017 Festival of Chocolate, hosted by the Friends of Kendall Young Library. The 2018 Festival is planned for Sunday, Jan. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. Organizers have put out the call to solicit entries for the contest.

Now that Christmas is over, bakers looking for a way to beat the post-holiday January blahs are invited to whip up a batch of chocolate goodies for the Kendall Young Library’s 6th Annual Festival of Chocolate.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. Organizers said the festival is a chance to share with fellow chocoholics, support this annual Library fundraising event, and win prizes.

There are four categories: Brownies/Bars, Cakes/Cupcakes, Confections/Candy, and Cookies.  Bakers may enter one or all of the categories. A panel of judges will select the top entries in each category and award prizes.

Entry forms are available at the Library Checkout Desk or on the Library’s website, www.kylib.org. There’s no cost to enter and participants are admitted free to the festival. Entries will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 19.

Tickets for the Festival are available for $10 at the Library Checkout Desk or can be purchased at the event. Ticket holders will have a chance to sample the chocolate goodies prepared by area bakers and cooks.

The Festival of Chocolate is sponsored by the Friends of Kendall Young Library to help fund programs and activities not covered in the Library’s normal operating budget.  The revenue supports Kendall Young Library Summer Reading Programs, Books for Babies and other Library services and projects.
