Lynx boys earn bronze at NCC

FORT DODGE — The Webster City boys secured a Top-3 finish here Monday at the North Central Conference golf championships.

The Lynx finished just a single shot back of Clear Lake, as Humboldt was first with a 309. The Lions had a 317 and Webster City followed with a 318.

Algona, Iowa Falls-Alden, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, St. Edmond and Clarion-Goldfield/Dows rounded out the scoring at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

Cael Nixon’s 75 was good for third overall, just three shots back of medalist Carson Arndt from Humboldt. Braylon Plain finished fifth with a 77, Braden Doering was 15th and Luke Firsching finished 17th overall.

Nixon had a 37 on the back with a 38 on the front, carding two birdies and nine pars for his round. He had just one bogey on the back nine and only five on the day.

Plain finished with a 37 on the front, which included a birdie and five pars. He had a 40 on the back with six pars.

Doering carded a 40-43 with a birdie and eight pars.

Dawson Bertran had an 86 and Trevyn Lyons an 87 for the other two scores.

Webster City will compete Wednesday at a Class 3A sectional hosted by Humboldt at Spring Valley Golf Course. Joining the Lynx and Wildcats will be Boone, Clear Lake, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden, North Polk and Perry.
