WC girls in action at individual regionals

WATERLOO — The Webster City girls tennis team was in action here Monday at a Class 1A regional meet.

Allie Severe and Alivia Burns picked up a win over a team from South Hardin to advance to the doubles quarterfinals, where they were bested by Dike-New Hartford’s No. 1 team of Izzy Norton and Aida Tott.

“That team should have been the No. 1 seed,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “Alivia and Allie showed a lot of promise all day and all season. They had some good points and played some great tennis.”

The other Webster City pair of Morgan Hackbarth and Hailey Brim earned a win over Kiersten Christensen and Addy Joslin of Dike-New Hartford before falling to Boone’s Shannon Jenkins and Lucy Hanson.

“Boone was just a little better in the critical points,” Fisher said. “Morgan and Hailey have come so far this season in confidence and overall tennis skill.”

Kinzey Koestner and Cyra Christensen both dropped matches in the singles draw to players from Dike-New Hartford.

“Kinzey gave her opponent some trouble and did some good things, she just wasn’t able to finish off points,” Fisher said. “Cyra has always been one of our smarter players and showed that.

“The younger girls have really set a nice foundation moving forward for the program.”

Up next for the Lynx will be team regionals in Boone on Friday.
