This week has been full of rehearsals for many artists, both musicians and actors in the Webster City area.

If you are interested in the arts, this was certainly the week for it.

There are still opportunities to view some of the great talent that is showcased on two different stages this weekend.

The WCHS choirs will be presenting their annual variety show, “A Night at the Movies,” and the Webster City Community Theatre will perform their last weekend of the production “12 Angry Jurors.”

But it was the band students who were showcased earlier in the week. Band students of all ages in Webster City were all together, regardless of the level of experience of the musicians; from beginners to those seasoned and ready for a college roll. The Parade of Bands, which was held on Tuesday demonstrated the wide range of talent the schools have found in the various age groups. This event demonstrated why so many are earning awards and being invited to various honor bands in the state.

The Parade of Bands, held at the Webster City High School’s competition gym, truly demonstrated the strength of each band. Each group was showcased with several numbers, and the final number combined all the bands together. Band Directors Kaitlynn Abens directed the high school band and Kent Wesselink handled the fifth and sixth grade bands.

Some of the students from the band are also involved with the variety show this weekend.

The Webster City High School variety show, “A Night at the Movies” will be at 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday night at the Prem Sahai auditorium, located at 1001 Lynx Ave.

The variety show will include the high school Treble Singers, Lynx Singers and Varsity Singers, in addition to Chordination and some unique and special guest performers. The evening is designed to be a showcase of entertainment, highlighting songs of favorite movies. The evening provides something for everyone: comedy, drama, nostalgia, empowerment and celebration.

At the same time the Variety Show draws their curtain open, the Webster City Community Theatre will be hitting the stage for their last weekend of “12 Angry Jurors.” This intense drama will be unfolding at the Performing Arts Center located at 1001 Willson Avenue.

Directed by John Marvel, this is the second weekend of the play, and there are the three performances Friday and Saturday night which begin at 7 p.m., in addition to a final performance Sunday at 2 p.m.

Marvel, who is directing his first show in Webster City, commented on the first weekend of the play.

“I was very pleased,” said Marvel, “The audience was good, and really seemed involved.”

Variety show tickets are still available at a cost of $8 for adults, $5 for students. Activity passes are accepted but payment by cash or check is preferred.

Tickets for the performance of “12 Angry Jurors” are $15 at the door, or online. Tickets online do include some taxes and fees; find them at webstercitycommunitytheatre.org.
