Lynx boys win second straight match on the pitch

The Webster City boys secured a second straight victory to end play last week, besting Hampton-Dumont/CAL in North Central Conference play, 1-0.

David Villelas had the lone goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 60th minute off an assist from Abisai Ramirez-Carmona for the Lynx (7-2-2 overall, 7-2-2 in the league).

Brandon Burney recorded five saves in net to secure the clean sheet.

“In the 60th, Chato played a ball from midfield, David took it off the bounce, juggled it over the defender and banged it home. It was really pretty to see,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “We had one more great opportunity but couldn’t connect. It’s a lot harder to deal with teams if we can’t execute and put them away by scoring one or two more goals on our quality chances.

“It took us a while to find the pockets of space, but when we did, we were able to possess and keep the ball a bit more. We had a great chance in the 10th minute that we didn’t put away. In the 24th, Brandon got a great touch on a free kick to push it off the crossbar that was able to be cleared out of the box from there.”

Villelas had five shots, with four coming on target, as Francisco Revolorio Guinac had four shots.

“Grayson and Abisai were terrific on the back line yet again,” Signorin said. “Jesus, Aaron and Dany were solid in the middle, and Francisco and David kept their back line on their heels all night.”

The Lynx play their final regular season home match on Monday vs. Clear Lake, concluding action at Charles City on Tuesday and Garner-Hayfield on Thursday.

Starting at $3.46/week.
