TRIPLE THREAT
The Webster City girls track and field team had a strong showing here last Thursday as they hosted the North Central Conference meet.
Overall, the Lynx earned three titles and had five others place in the Top-3. Algona was crowned the meet champions, winning 10 events.
Izzy Grossoehme, Tessa Hansen and Kali Hartnett each walked away with two golds, as Grossoehme won the 400-meter run in 58.91 and ran the anchor on the winning sprint medley relay, which went 1:50.83.
Hartnett, Izzy Weinschenk and Hansen joined her on the sprint medley, as Briley VanDeer, Hartnett, Tristyn Wright and Hansen won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:10.77.
VanDeer was also the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles, going 16.88. She added a fifth in the long jump with a leap of 14-2.5.
Hansen placed third in both the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.98) and long jump (14-8), as Amanda Lahr was third in the shot put (36-10.5).
Hartnett, Wright, Weinschenk and Grossoehme finished third in the 4×100 with a time of 52.13.
“What an awesome night,” WCHS head coach Tyler Mosbach said. “The girls showed out to begin our championship phase. The meet was loaded with season-bests and personal records, which also included a school record in the sprint medley relay.
“Our goal was to score 100 points and a Top-3 finish, and we succeeded in accomplishing that. I couldn’t be more proud of this team.”
Jakaela Cherry earned a fourth in the discus (113-5) and a fifth in the shot put (35-3), as Weinschenk was fifth in the 100 (13.47) and sixth in the 200 (28.35). Avery Poppen placed sixth in the shot put (113-0) and Ariauna Reed was seventh in the 800 (2:53.05).
