WEBSTER CITY–Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball downed Webster City 3-0 in a tightly contested match Thursday winning 26-24, 25-19, 25-18. The Cowgirls finished North Central Conference play with a perfect 7-0 record, Humboldt was second at 6-1 while the Lynx finished 4-3 in a three way tie for third place with Algona and Clear Lake.

All three sets featured several long volleys, huge blocks, and strong attacks. The Cowgirls were quick to the ball and found just enough opening in the Lynx defense to win each set.

On Saturday in Winterset the Lynx finished second in pool play, losing to Red Oak 17-21, 14-21 and beating Greene County 16-21, 21-14, 15-9 and Winterset 21-17, 12-21, 15-10 to advance to bracket action where they lost to Norwalk 19-21, 14-21.

“We were able to go up against some tough competition both Thursday and Saturday which is what we need in preparation for the post-season” commented Lynx Coach Jess Howard.

“We are doing some really good things on the court right now and are playing the way we need to at this point in the season. The girls are finding their potential right now and are ready for an exciting post-season run.”

The Lynx (20-15) will open Class 4A Region 6 competition Tuesday at home hosting Fort Dodge (8-21). First serve is at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play at Western Dubuque on Thursday.
