GILBERT ä Early runs by Gilbert proved too much for the Webster City baseball team to overcome.

The Tigers plated five in the first and four more in the second, picking up a 10-0 victory in five innings over the Lynx here Friday night in Class 3A substate action.

With the win, Gilbert (14-14 overall) advances to face North Polk (25-7) Monday night in a substate semifinal in Alleman. The other side of the bracket pits Waverly-Shell Rock (24-6) vs. Humboldt (21-8), who topped North Central Conference rival Algona last week, 8-5.

Braylon Dyvig, Gordon Bargfrede and Syrus Willard each had a hit for Webster City. Dyvig and Carter Mickelson both recorded two strikeouts on the mound.

The Lynx graduate seniors Dyvig, Jaxon Griffith, Aiden Hrnicek, Mickelson, Matthew Tesdahl and Willard from a team that won 21 games this past summer.

Starting at $3.46/week.
