This is more than a health crisis — it’s an economic one too. As a business owner, it’s devastating to see the impact on my industry — more than 1,000 restaurants in Iowa are now closed. To the Editor: It recently came to the attention of police department personnel that the mayor approached the county about merging. The citizens of WC need to be aware of the services that would be eliminated or drastically changed were this to happen. The volume of calls handled by the police department alone are significantly more than that of the county. To the Editor: Just wanted to thank this awesome community for coming out and supporting our very first ever Haunted Barn at Fluffy Butt Acres! We had 748 people come thru our three barn haunt Friday and Saturday, even after only advertising it for a week! It was all the crazy brainchild of Jamie Seiser and I who thought it would make a great fundraiser for Boy Scout Troop 17.(Jamie and his wife Robin, have two sons who achieved their Eagle Scout rank in the program.) To the Editor: Childcare isn’t a glamorous industry; it’s exhausting, messy work with low pay. We aren’t seen as educators or professionals; we are viewed as glorified babysitters. I ask, if we were only babysitting children, why don’t we plop them down in front of the television? Why do we concern ourselves with providing healthy meals? Why do we have circle time, do activities, and make crafts? Why do we work with children and their families to teach social and emotional skills and other basic skills to prepare them for school?
