Appreciates support of Enhance Hamilton County Foundation

To the editor: HERO, the Help Entertain and Restore Organization, the owner/operator of the Webster Theater would like to thank the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation for the generous grant that they gave us to help with COVID 19 relief. As most of you probably know, the theater was closed from March 17, 2020 to October 16, 2020. We were able to cut expenses to the bare bones, but there are always ongoing expenses. We were able to sell popcorn and candy on Friday nights until the first of June and then work with the City of Webster City to sell concessions during movies in the park ...

Lowering voting age isn’t the answer

To the Editor: Some in the US Congress are proposing lowering the legal voting age to 16 years of age. Some argue it is a ploy to increase the liberal voters, others argue it is because if you are old enough to pay payroll taxes you should be able to vote. Science tells us the human brain reaches full maturity around age 25. I recall being age 16 and recall my children being age 16, I also have grandchildren age 16. Let’s come together for something special

To the editor: For too long, we have been defined by who we voted for in the last election. We have been defined by our opinion of wearing masks or whether we think vaccines are effective. Politics and public health are essential facets of everyday life. However, I see community as more important. Upon the news that Webster City will once again be a pass-through town in the 48th edition of RAGBRAI, I saw a perfect opportunity for Webster City to come together as a community. Masks give more freedom

To the Editor: In response to the recent letter to the editor stating wearing a mask is a matter of opinion, I noticed the title “Doctor” did not precede the writer’s name. A mask is not an opinion, it is a fact based on studies done by medical professionals at the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control who have no reason to lie. Masks give us more freedom, not less, because if everyone wore one, businesses and schools could safely reopen and stay open. Well over 100 nurses and a number of doctors have sacrificed their lives to care for COVID 19 patients. ...

Red Kettle campaign a success

To the Editor: On behalf of the Webster City Ministerial Association, I want to thank everyone who helped make our 2020 Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign a success. Volunteers from First Congregational United Church of Christ, Asbury United Methodist Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church organized ringing teams at HyVee and Fareway Food Stores and collected a total of $3,585. We want to thank HyVee and Fareway for allowing us to ring on their premises, and we especially want to thank all the generous members of our community who contributed to this needed benevolence. Would like to see female city manager

To the Editor: I respectfully request that the City Council of Webster City hire a female as city manager due to the fact that the last 3 city managers of Webster City were male. I believe in gender equity and hope that the City Council strives for that as well. Paul Dahl Webster City
