Tim Scott to speak at Hamilton County Chili Feed on Saturday

To the Editor: The Hamilton County Republicans invite all to join us this Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th, for our Chili Feed & Silent Auction. Our special guest speakers include U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Tim Scott, Iowa House Majority Whip Henry Stone, State Senator Dennis Guth, and State Representative Shannon Latham. Eminent domain should not be used for carbon pipelines

To the editor: A Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll in March showed that nearly 80% of Iowans oppose the use of eminent domain for a carbon pipeline. I hope the Iowa Utility Board follows the wishes of nearly 80% of the Iowans and votes against eminent domain. In my opinion the laws pertaining to eminent domain were not written for a few investors to enter personal property against the owner’s will for their own personal financial gain. Vote for someone who wants to limit campaign contributions

To the editor: I saw a Republican Congressman on TV say we are spending 7 trillion and collecting only 5 trillion, so he wasn’t voting to not shut down the government. Wasn’t it the previous Republican administration that gave all the tax breaks to the rich? It isn’t rocket science, it’s simple math. You can’t have it both ways; the rich have to pay their fair share. Choosing VDMC was the right decision

To the Editor: Going to the emergency room is never fun. However, nothing is worse than the experience of being a parent to a child in the emergency room. Recently, I found myself in this position in my home community of Fort Dodge. When in need of care, I took my child to UnityPoint Medical Center’s Emergency Room in Fort Dodge, and it was one of the worst experiences with the medical care system I have ever had. To the Editor: We are all enjoying the more expanded Turning Back the Pages of Time sections in the newspaper. The recent one about Sarah Brewer-Bonebright’s book “Reminiscences of Newcastle, Iowa 1848 — a History of the Founding of Webster City,” Iowa sparked a reminder that this book can be read and printed out for free on the internet.
