There were a number of events held throughout Hamilton County Tuesday honoring the many Veterans living in the county.
The Veterans program in Jewell featured First Sergeant USAR retired Gregg Campbell, who spoke at the South Hamilton Schools.
In Webster City, the Community Veterans Day program was held at the Webster City Middle School in the morning.
The Webster City High School also hosted a Veterans Day program in the afternoon, with LuAnn Garvey as the guest speaker.
Veterans throughout Webster City were treated to a special meal on Veterans Day. American Legion Post 191 was the site when meals were served, in addition to meals taken to the care centers for Veterans now living there.
“As close as we could tell, the number we came up with was 128, including meals at the care centers,” said Steve Struchen, Legion treasurer. Meals were transported off site by Matt MacRunnel, Dave Gordon and Jenny Manning to the different care centers.
Sponsored by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, the meals were prepared by Legion members Gene Williams, Steve Struchen, Steve Markwardt, a member of the sons of the American Legion and Gene’s wife, Annie Williams. They prepared pork loin, beans, and mashed potatoes.
