How to “READ” a Cemetery — In preparation of Memorial Day, Kendall Young Library will host a program on How to “READ” a Cemetery. On Tuesday, May 20, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Jen Ohzourk from the West Des Moines Public Library will guide guests through some of the questions people have when visiting a cemetery. Have you ever been in a cemetery and wondered about some of the people buried there? Curious about why there are obelisks in some cemeteries? Are you doing some genealogical research and aren’t sure about the meaning of some of the symbols you’re finding? You’ll learn about how even though there are multiple points of views and facets to these images, the symbolism is represented across many cemeteries.
