It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas in the City

Those Halloween decorations won’t take themselves down.

Move over, the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce says, because Christmas in the City is coming. That means it’s time to deck any halls you can find and light up the streets for this annual holiday extravaganza.

Christmas in the City is Saturday, December 2. It’s sponsored this year, again, by Karl Webster City in partnership with the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Webster City.

Early birds will love the way the day begins:

Rise and shine at 8 a.m. with the SNAP Fitness Ugly Sweater Bootcamp. Then, share a morning meal with that Jolly Old Santa at Hy-Vee from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. “As bellies fill, the merriment spills over to Legacy Learning Art Studio at 719 Seneca Street for ornament crafting from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by cookie decorating at the Kendall Young Library, 10:30 a.m until noon.”

You can capture the season’s magic with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Wilson Brewer log cabin, at Wilson Brewer Historic Park, 220 Ohio St., Webster City, from noon until 2 p.m., courtesy of Platinum Connect. “Intertwined with story time and games, it’s a photo op not to be missed! The historic park will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Experience Webster City’s history and family friendly games and activities.

“Step into a Victorian winter wonderland at the Jane Young House, 629 Elm St., Webster City, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. for the annual Festival of Trees, showcasing 20 spectacularly decorated trees. Hint: There’s a sneak a peek the evening before, on Friday, December 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Leave with a free gift to remember the experience.

“Afternoon adventurers unite for the Candy Cane Hike at Briggs Woods Park shelter house No. 2 at 1 p.m. Join John Laird, of Hamilton County Conservation, and Tony Streigel, of Webster City Church of Christ, as they lead the hike searching for hidden candy canes and discuss the winter behaviors of local wildlife — an educational twist to the festive activity.”

There’s a free holiday matinee at the Webster Theater at 2 p.m., courtesy of Karl Webster City.

At Legacy Learning Art Studio, there will be card-making and clay handprints between 2 and 4 p.m.

“Hungry for more than just fun? Swing by the American Legion Post No. 191 between 3 and 7 p.m. for homemade cinnamon rolls and chili; freewill donations are welcome.”

Do you hunger for something stronger? Grown-ups, guess what? Wildcat Distilling Co. will host guided tastings to warm the spirit at both 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The downtown Lighted Parade is at 5:30 p.m., sponsored this year by Availa Bank.

“Following the dazzle, Brad and Shawna Schmidt will light the Christmas in the City tree in Availa Bank Plaza, accompanied by carols and warm treats.”

Then, remembering the reason for the season, conclude the day with a visit to the First Congregational UCC Church’s live nativity, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It’s at 1000 Willson Ave., Webster City.

If you hunger to hear more sounds of the season, you can attend the Webster City Community Chorus’s seasonal debut at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1229 Kathy Lane, Webster City. It begins at 7:30 p.m.

So say farewell to Halloween and come home for the holidays.
