BOONE COUNTY — A Webster City man died in an accident in northern Boone County on October 7, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Wednesday.

Michael J. Batterson, 59, died when the vehicle he was driving failed to negotiate a curve on 130th Avenue in northern Boone County.

The accident occurred at about 2 p.m., the Boone County sheriff reported.

According to the accident report, Batterson was eastbound in a 2006 Dodge Caravan about a half mile west of Nature Road when his van left the roadway.

The Boone County sheriff’s report said Batterson’s vehicle was reportedly traveling too fast and lost control, crossing the center line before going into the north ditch.

The van slid sideways entering the ditch and ultimately rolled, ejecting Batterson.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report. The van burst into flames as it came to rest.

Batterson was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
