Ballard too much for Lynx at nets

BALLARD — The Webster City girls tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Ballard here this past Thursday.

Hailey Brim and Natalie Hackbarth had the lone win for the Lynx, picking up a 5-7, 7-5 (10-6) victory at No. 3 doubles.

Hackbarth dropped her first singles set in a tiebreaker while the doubles team of Allie Severe and Alivia Burns fell in a close match, 6-3, 6-4.

Perla Torres and Gabbie Sebert, Miley Mason and Ash Tinoco, and Delaney Lyons and Evy Streigle earned junior varsity wins.

“I loved the way our girls worked and learned,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “The score might not show it, but we did some good things, played some good points and learned a lot.

“I was really impressed with the way Morgan battled in singles. Got down 1-5 in the first set and battled back and had a chance to win the set at 6-5 before dropping the tiebreaker. I could really see her confidence grow as the match went on and was good to see her positive afterwards and focused on the areas in her game they had attacked and how she wanted to improve on those.”

Webster City heads to Fort Dodge for the North Central Conference tournament on Wednesday.

The Lynx dropped a 9-0 decision to Nevada and also compete in the NCC tournament on Wednesday at Clear Lake.
