Classic cars, classic music
The sounds of The Shades comes to Thursday's Market Night
Event attendees admire classic cars at a recent Webster City Market Night. Classic Car nights are held every third Thursday in July and August from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition to viewing classic cars, the weekly event also offers hot food, market vendors, live entertainment, and street games.

The Shades were comprised of, from left, Doug Meyer, Bruce Seaboch, John Hemingway, Bruce Hovland and Jerry Foster.
Putting them together for a Market Night in downtown Webster City.
This Thursday’s Market Night will feature the sounds of the iconic 1960s Webster City band The Shades on the Availa Bank stage. Featured in the performance will be original band members vocalist Jerry Foster, bassist John Hemingway, and keyboard player Tom Osboe. Rounding out Thursday’s sound will be guitarist Tom Follett and drummer Brad Larson.
With that background in sound, classic cars will line the 700 block of Second Street. Classic car owners are invited to bring their vintage vehicles to downtown Webster City for the event, according to Anna Woodward, Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce director.
The official start of Market Night is 5:30 p.m., but classic car owners should enter between the hours of 4 to 5 p.m. and use the Prospect and Second street entrance.
There is no registration fee required to bring a classic car to Webster City Market Nights. Every make, model, and vintage are welcome to attend. Past events have featured historic cars from the early 20th century up to modern Camaros and Thunderbirds. Car enthusiasts will be excited to view a pre production GMC Hummer EV model on display from Karl Webster City.
To feed hungry classic enthusiasts, the American Legion Post 191 tent at the corner of Des Moines and Second streets — in front of the Daily Freeman-Journal parking lot — will see post members grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and brats. The American Legion Women’s Auxiliary will be selling desserts. American Legion grill-outs are a partnership event with Greg Littlejohn, Farm Bureau Financial Services.
New this week is Lucky Wife Wine Slushies, Woodward said. “The slushies are made from a 100% real fruit base blended with a secret powder mix to create a ‘smooth finish’ as an adult treat. There’s over 19 flavors to choose from!”
Loudi’s Kitchen, El Paletero Popsicle Truck, Hungry Boys Taqueria, and The Feedshack, will round out the food vendor selection, along with outdoor dining at local eating and drinking establishments including Leon’s Pizza, La Perla Jarocha Restaurant, Chicago Style, and Wildcat Distilling Co.
Market Nights is presented by American Sanitation.
