Last summer, the Kendall Young Library ended the summer reading program with a foam party in the parking lot.

The last day of school in Webster City is Friday, which is perfect timing for the Kendall Young Library which is sponsoring a family kick-off event Sunday to promote the 2026 Summer Reading Program.

The new hours for the library coincide with these events, as they are adjusting their hours starting June 1.

The kick-off event is a Family Summer Kickoff Party on the lawn. This will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, when they will coordinate an afternoon of live music and food. This fun family event will offer games, face painting, and a balloon artist.

Families are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for the event which is sponsored by Fareway Meat & Grocery.

The summer reading theme, “Plant a Seed, Read” begins on June 1, and involves special programs, activities and reading incentives for most ages which will keep students engaged, and ready to learn throughout the summer, and ready when school starts again in the fall.

The new operating hours at the library are designed to better align library services with community usage patterns and patron needs. The updated hours will be:

• Monday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Thursday: 10 a.m. to 7 pp.m.

• Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Sunday: Closed

“These changes will help us continue providing strong service during our busiest times while remaining thoughtful and responsible with staffing and operations,” said Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes, Library Director. “While our hours are changing, our commitment to our patrons remains as strong as ever. We encourage patrons to continue visiting us during our updated hours and to take advantage of the library’s many online resources and services.”

The new schedule extends Monday hours to offer more evening access, while optimizing weekend times to conform to when our community visits most. These thoughtful adjustments ensure our staff and resources are fully focused on serving patrons during favorite, highest-traffic hours.

Starting at $3.46/week.
