Sundae event nets $2,000 for food pantry challenge
Gayle Olson presented a check for $2,076 from First Congregational United Church of Christ to Darcy Swon, Development Director of the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation. Generous patrons donated $1,500 during a curbside “Drive Thru Sundae” event at the church last Friday evening. Additional donations pushed the total over $2,000.
“We are thrilled and thankful we were able to generate more than $4,000 for our local food pantries, said Olson, the church’s Mission Board Chair.
“Our food pantries will be so happy to receive the financial support,” commented Swon. She said those local recipients are Lord’s Cupboard in Jewell and Stratford Food Pantry. Webster City food pantries are Upper Des Moines Opportunity, St. Paul’s Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran, and Asbury United Methodist/All Cultures Equal.
Since EHCF announced their matching gift challenge of $10,000, Webster City Rotary Club added $2000 to the challenge,
“It’s a great way to double the value of your donation,” said Swon. “And this is a time when the need is great.”
