First Infantry Division reunion planned for August
AMBLER, PA– Veterans of the Army’s renowned 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, will hold their 99th Annual Reunion in Lombard, Illinois from Aug. 1-5, 2018 at the Westin Lombard. The reunion will be conducted by the Big Red One veterans’ organization, the Society of the First Infantry Division.
The 1st Infantry Division is the Army’s oldest and arguably most famous division. It served with great distinction in World War I, World War II, Vietnam and the first Gulf War (Desert Storm) as well as in Germany and the U.S. during the Cold War. Elements of the 1st Infantry Division have participated in extensively in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and also in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The 1st Infantry Division has also trained thousands of Military Transition Team members and deployed them to Iraq and Afghanistan.
At last year’s 98th annual reunion in Kansas City, Missouri, over 700 Big Red one veterans and their guest attended. The Commanding General of the Division and many active duty soldiers currently serving in the First Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, also attended.
Everyone who ever served in the First Infantry Division or any unit attached to it is invited to attend this year’s reunion.
