Hamilton County election results certified Wednesday; Flatebo and Wallen to serve on Kamrar City Council

The Hamilton County supervisors spent Wednesday afternoon completing the process to finalize the 2025 county elections.

The State of Iowa requires several steps to confirm election results, certifying the results from the November 4 election.

During the Hamilton County Supervisor meeting Wednesday, Auditor Kim Shaa confirmed that the election had passed the post election audit, allowing final certification to be completed.

The race between Kamrar City Council candidates ended up in a three way tie. The solution was to draw two names after confirming the votes did produce a tie during the certification process.

The tie was between Dustin Flatebo, Gunther Range and Matthew Wallen. Two names were drawn from a bowl to determine the two new city council members, Dustin Flatebo and Matthew Wallen.

They will be joining Gerald Huisman who was re-elected to serve on the Kamrar City Council.

The audited prescinct for Hamilton County was the absentee ballots cast for the Webster City City Council race. This required the hand counting of the actual ballots. The sampling matched exactly what the machine count determined.

The supervisors are required to assist with the final confirmation of each of the precincts, working with Hamilton County Auditor, Kim Shaa, to certify the election. Supervisors Mary Clausen and April Ely joined Young and Shaa in verifying all the election results.
