CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City boys had no answer for second-ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake here Tuesday, falling 67-29. The Lynx held tough with the Lions through the opening eight minutes, trailing by five after the first quarter. Clear Lake, though, used a 25-5 run in the second to put Webster City in a hole. CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City girls wrestling team went 2-1 in action here Monday night. The Lynx earned dual wins over West Fork (47-24) and the host Lions (42-36), falling to Iowa Falls-Alden (33-30). Kearsyn Kite and Kali Hartnett each went 3-0 on the night, as Lexi Mathes, Ariana Wilson, Kate Feltz, Nevaeh Robinson, Abby Heckert and Liberty Gamble all claimed two wins. Ana Calles and Kendra Schulz each picked up a victory. Webster City returns to action Monday when they host Eagle Grove, Humboldt and Charles City.
CHARLES CITY — Evie Davis and the Webster City girls rang in the new year with a resounding 71-20 victory over Charles City here on Saturday. Davis, a sophomore post player, had 23 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Lynx (3-4 overall). Davis made nine of her 16 shots from the floor. Webster City shot an efficient 51 percent as a team. CHARLES CITY — The Webster City boys basketball squad pulled away from Charles City in their first game of the new year on Saturday, posting a 68-55 road victory. The Lynx (2-2 overall) outscored the Comets (0-5) in the fourth quarter, 25-13, turning a slim lead into a comfortable win. Junior Coyce Bertran had a career-high 27 points to lead Webster City. Bertran drilled five of his six three-point attempts, and didn’t miss a free throw in six tries. Bertran also added six rebounds and five steals.
