EAGLE GROVE — The South Hamilton football team made quite the statement here in the regular season finale.

The Hawks finished off a perfect run through the district with a dominating 60-12 victory over Eagle Grove.

South Hamilton (7-1 overall) advances to the Class 1A playoffs, hosting Ridge View (4-4) this Friday night.

Landen Skartvedt continued to shine since returning from a preseason injury, rushing for 160 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries. Skartvedt was one of five Hawk players to average over 10.5 yards per carry on the night, as they racked up 470 yards and eight TDs on the ground.

Tjerdan Johnson used his legs instead of his arm, as the junior quarterback had 83 yards and a pair of scores on just four totes, while sophomore Nick Severseike had 79 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.

Kolby Hodnefield, a freshman, ran for 67 yards and a TD, with 11th-grader Noah Gunderson adding 42 yards and a score. The two had just seven combined touches.

On defense, Owen Renaud and Carter Balvanz each had 2.5 tackles for loss, with Hodnefield leading the team with six stops. South Hamilton forced six turnovers, recovering five fumbles.

Severseike had an interception, with Johnson, Skartvedt, Blake Harris, Carter Stolee and Aiden Johnson each recovering a fumble.

Since a Week 3 loss to West Marshall, the Hawks have reeled off five consecutive wins, scoring over 38 points in all five. They have posted 58, 62, 54 and 60 in four of their last five, allowing no more than 14 during that stretch.

Ridge View (4-4) secured its postseason bid with a 28-7 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan. The Raptors lost to fellow playoff qualifiers OABCIG, Unity Christian, West Sioux and Emmetsburg during the season.
