Lynx open with 2-1 effort at R-S quad
STORY CITY — The Webster City volleyball squad opened the 2022 campaign on Monday going 2-1 at the Roland-Story quadrangular.
The Lynx lost to Roland-Story 20-25, 25-21, 9-15, before rebounding to beat South Hamilton, 28-26, 25-13 and Central Springs, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9.
The Norsemen finished the evening with a 3-0 record. Webster City went 2-1, Central Springs 1-2 and South Hamilton 0-3.
“We were able to play a lot of girls in several positions, allowing us to be flexible in some of our rotations,” said Lynx head coach Jess Howard. “I thought we attacked well for the first night out and we were good defensively at the net, being able to slow the ball down and making the other teams adjust their hitting.”
Reese Casey had 15 kills on the night for Webster City, while Joslin Gourley added 13 and Ava Peterson 10.
Alley Odland had a team-high 42 digs, while Gourley added 23 and Cloe Savitski 21. Reese Casey tallied six blocks with Livia Kasch and Gourley four each and Addie Tesdahl three.
Gourley dished out 34 assists. Fallon Casey contributed 13 and Delainey Bargfrede seven.
From the service line, Reese Casey was 30 of 32 with 3 aces, Gourley 30-33 with 3 aces, Fallon Casey 22-26 with two aces, and Savitski had two aces going 21-23.
“Our consistency will improve as we play together more and get accustomed to what each player does well,” Howard said. “It was good to get on the court against other competition and see where we are at.”
The Lynx will return to action Saturday at the St. Edmond tournament in Fort Dodge.
