Richard Lubbers

Beloved husband and father Richard “Dick” Lubbers, 86, passed away Sunday, November 20, in Webster City, Iowa.

Richard Marr Lubbers was born on October 30, 1936, in Webster City and lived there his entire life. While in high school he began working with his father at Lubbers Clothing. He purchased the store in the late 1970s and continued there until 1995. He loved helping his customers find just the right clothes for all of life’s many occasions. If you lived in the Webster City area back then, there’s a good chance he knew your suit size, sleeve length, waist size and inseam. After Lubbers Clothing closed in 1995, he worked at Moffitt’s Ford in Boone, Iowa, until 2001.

He married Barbara Harreld on March 17, 1957, and they enjoyed more than 65 years by each other’s side. He is survived by Barbara and son David of Webster City; sisters Linda (Dr. John Ptacek) of Savannah, Georgia, and Janet (Moody) of Webster City; and brothers Mike Lubbers (Laurie) of Estero, Florida, and Dr. Phil Lubbers of Savannah, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Verne and Helen (Reid) Lubbers, infant son Reid, sister-in-law Susan (Slauson) Lubbers, and brother-in-law William Moody.

He was a kind, caring, loving man and the world was a better place with him in it. He will be greatly missed by his family and many others.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory to the Webster City Parks and Recreation Department, 400 Second Street, Webster City, IA 50595.
